What is a CCTV Security Rebate?

A CCTV security rebate is a financial assistance program provided by local councils to help residents offset the cost of purchasing and installing security cameras. The goal is to increase surveillance coverage in residential areas, making neighbourhoods safer and deterring crime.

How Do These Rebates Work?

While specific details vary depending on the local government, the general process typically involves:

  • Eligibility Criteria: Residents must meet certain conditions, such as:

    • being the property owner or tenant with permission from the landlord.

    • CCTV must include a public angle field of view overlooking the road, footpath, front verge, or any other applicable public area.

    • must be provided and installed by a registered business with a Security Agents Licence Number.

    • The public facing camera must meet the following criteria:

      • 4-megapixel resolution

      • Continuous recording capability for at least 30 days

      • Ability to function at night

      • Must be a hardwired camera

  • Approved Security Systems: The rebate often applies to specific types of CCTV cameras that meet minimum quality standards.

  • Application Process: Homeowners usually need to submit an application form along with proof of purchase and installation, such as receipts or invoices.

  • Rebate Amount: The amount reimbursed varies, but it generally covers part of the cost rather than the full expense.

How to Apply

Residents interested in the program should check with their local government for specific eligibility requirements and application details. Since each council may have different guidelines, it’s best to visit their official website or contact their customer service for up-to-date information.

To make things a little easier we have gone through all the local government websites and found the ones which are currently offering CCTV Security Rebates and have listed them below with a link to their specific rebate webpage.

Always read all the requirements and contact the local government prior to any purchase to make sure the rebate still applies.
